Hand-Forged "H" hinges

In the Colonial period "H" and "HL" hinges were use on many types of doors.  If the batton or z-brace did not need help straping the door together than the H or HL hinge may have been used.

Cabinet and smaller doors would use 3" & 4" (16 gauge)
Armoires and mid-sized doors might use a 6" (12 gauge)
Full size doors used 7" and larger (7" = 12 gauge)
Heavy duty H hinges (3/16" thickness)
